Snow Days at the Laho's
Thoughts of school tomorrow make me giddy. The Chiclets attended a total of eleven days of school since December 20th. But really who would count. I do love a snow day once or twice a year but five in three weeks? Crazy. (That's me, right now.)
In case you haven't been outside in, um mm like three weeks, here is a photo of our back yard.
Seriously it's been a good week. Lots of good reading instead of picking up after people. I finished a book called, "Riding the Bus with My Sister". Highly recommend it. I'm thinking it should be mandatory high school reading.
Today, Caleb's friend Max saved my day. He occupied Caleb for several hours. I sort of felt like I should do laundry and menial work since I took a "snow day" the day before. I stopped to watch them play for a few minutes. I overheard, "How do you like your farts to sound?" followed up by an array of disgusting noises and proud laughter. I quickly retreated to my work.
After Max left, Caleb pulled out his new Rainbow Loom he bought from Michael's this morning with his Christmas money. For the next two and half hours he feverishly stretched rubber bands around the loom pegs to assemble bracelets. Almost to the finish line of making a bracelet he says, "Oh no it didn't work." I said, "Why don't you go on the tutorial to see how it's done." He's a "D" remember.
"No. I don't need to. I know how to do it." Well, three debacles later I suggested again, "You could go on the Internet and look it up on YouTube."
"No! I know how to do it. Aiden had this happen at school."
"Oh. So how did Aiden fix it?" I probed.
"I don't know." he casually answered.
"You know the definition of insanity don't you?" asking, but not expecting him to answer.
"Yeah. Doing it the same way, expecting a different result."
In case you've forgotten what the weather is like outside... Don't let that sunshine fool you! -10
"Well, yeah I'll have to be if I have kids" he logically responded.
"Not every dad is mechanical" I told him.
"Oh, well then no. I'm athletic" he chirped.
"You can be both" I said.
"Yeah, I guess I could be mechanical in the off season" he says.
Then randomly he says, "You know I have all these random theme songs stuck in my head from watching t.v. with Alisha."
At this juncture Jeff appears. He says, "What shows? Princess ones?"
Caleb goes into hostile defense, "Nooo. I don't watch those."
Jeff says back, "Well I do sometimes and I'm man enough to admit it."
Caleb, always one upping, "I'm admitting I watch them a lot. So how's that for manning up."
You know folks, I'm not funny enough to make this stuff up. Back to our loom. Onward he worked until...
Two and half hours later. The "D" is determined, if nothing.
Snow days at the Laho's. Now that's entertainment!

While we talked over "not solving" Caleb's looming problems, Jeff used his mechanical expertise to fix my van's heat. Because of course when temperatures fall below zero, the heat in my van must go out and my windshield must crack in a fine horizontal line long enough to cover east to west. I told Caleb he seemed fairly mechanical-minded like his dad."Well, yeah I'll have to be if I have kids" he logically responded.
